  • Encore DVD 2....a waste

    All that work and still it can't do two simple things;

    1. it still can't import a chapter list

    2. you still can't use stills for buttons with the flexibility of DVDWS 2

It added DTS support, which was a minor feature on my list.

Why bother buying it? Got me.....

The only Adobe program I use consistently is Acrobat.

I tested InDesign 2.0 the other day at Kinkos.

I thought the program was supposed to be able to open and edit PDF files.

Well, if it has that ability - and the HELP files are simply awful - then I couldn't figure out how to edit the individual elements, the vector-based circles, lines, etc., at all.

I then found a command for EDIT > GRAPHIC.

    That triggered Adobe Acrobat!

The people at Kinkos were so ignorant about the program, they couldn't help.

So I was left to wonder if the famed PDF editing capabilities of InDesign, in fact, meant that the program simply "calls for" Adobe Acrobat for that task, which is pretty lame.

On the other hand, there's a hot new company in the UK called SERIF and their "PagePlus" program really does open and edit PDF files:

Subscription-free photo editing, page layout, graphic design and illustration apps for professionals. Try for free or buy for one low payment.

It's a desktop publisher's dream, as far as I'm concerned and I plan to move away from Corel Draw and Corel Photo-Paint and use the Serif products exclusively in the future.

All of the other Adobe products I've tried feature interfaces that are needlessly complex and the key, important features are either buried or missing.

It's no surprise to me that they've lost the Macintosh crowd for video editing.

Hi Doc, here is the scoop...

These guys probably tried Encore 2 for the very first time and complained about a whole lot of things without talking to Adobe or reading the help files...

1-1. it still can't import a chapter list

You can importa chapter list from Premiere 2 but you have to name each of the chapters by double clicking on the chapter marker (new in Premiere 2) and then naming the marker.
Once you export to M2V Encore 2 will detect the markers and automatically create the chapter points according to what you have done in Premiere.

We also had this feature in Encore 1.5 and Premiere Pro 1.5 with RT.X100 if you recall.

2-Any object you bring into the menu can be converted to a button, ever since Encore 1.0 so don't know what these guys are complaining about, all you have to do is drag the picture file into the menu window, right click, and then say convert to button, voala!

Encore 2 is huge in terms of features, it can do photo slide shows with transitions and more.

I've been beta testing the Adobe Suite 2.0 for the longest time and believe me, it's feature rich!
But yes I agree, there is a learning curve if you are new to the Ap, the Adobe links are amazing, in Premiere you can link to After Effects or Audition to edit your audio, in Ecore you can link to Photoshop CS2 to edit your menus and so on so it is very much integrated.

      Cheers,
      Elie
