  • Nero 5.5 not worth waiting for?

VCD with menu doesn't seem to work.

Puts up the background picture with the menu but can't advance to the next chapter or or play any of the items. It just sits there showing the menu and background still.

    What's the trick?

If I drag and drop the VCD *.dat files in the MPEGAV directory onto WinDVD 2.3 they play fine.

I've tried with and without the PICTURE directory and CDi application box checked. Standards compliant has always been checked.

The question is what settings did you use?

    Background image? Its size?

I see the background image with the "header" and "footer" text along with the thumbnails of the chosen frames form the clips.

Problem is that's all that plays.

The menu is at its default "infinite" duration. I changed the clip delays from 5 to 0 seconds.

Strange. It works fine for me. Both VCD and SVCD with menus.

hmmm works fine for me too, it didn't show up on the pc, but it played fine on the dvd player for me. i for the most part left it at default settings except changing the header/footer/centering/background image

It's about time Nero issued fixes to 5.5 by now. Here come a couple of problems I've had with it to date:-

          1. Quick erase of RW CD takes just as long as a full erase. In my case 20 minutes. There does not appear to be any difference!

          2. Sometimes erase activity of RW CD never ceases and goes on and on. Only a re-boot of my system clears it.

Finally I'm also disappointed in fact that built-in MPEG-1 encoder offers no options/filters at all and does not come close to what TMPGENc can do. Surely if a company introduces such encoders late in the day they need to come out with something that is better than the free one we are all using already!

            hippie91,

Are you saying your Nero 5.5 VCD with menus didn't play on your PC but did in a standalone?

Which DVD stand-alone player? Which PC DVD software?

I use WinDVD 2.3 on W2K. It plays Nero 5.0 VCD and SVCD disks correctly whereas stand-alone players don't do fast forward/reverse correctly.

WHat is the resolution of your background pic? I let Nero resize and reascale mine, properties says 704x480, the VCD files say 352x240, I'm wondering if this is what is locking up the player?
