The main reason that W2K and Win9X drivers are being tied together is because the end on May driver release was supposed to be for both OSes (plus WinME). So far, we've only heard from Matrox about the W2K driver situation; are there still plans to release updated Win98/WinME drivers & Video Tools, with official YUY2 support? If yes, will these drivers be delayed until the W2k issue is sorted out?

If you go to the Matrox drivers page, you will see that the old Win 98 drivers are now labelled "final release."

        ----------
Those are for the Win98 Video Tools, NOT THE Win98 Display Drivers. That is the upgrade that Win98 users with the Marvel G400 are waiting for are the Display Driver for Win98.
        ------
I hope you can back off and let us Win98 users get what we are due and waiting for, while the W2K war continues in it's own threads.

            Hi Stevenscott,

My OS is windows 98 SE and I will not change it for a long while since some of my hardware is not "seen" by Windows 2k and I'm sure that there a multitude out there that share my problem. So why is Matrox ending the line on VT for Win. 98 users, I ask ???

I only know that the next set of updated Win98 Display Drivers are due to keep up with technology. I don't need new Video Tools (my 1.54 work fine) for my Win98. I know nothing more, only what everyone else knows. I sure could use a modern set of Win98 Display Drivers for my Marvel G400 to work with Directx8 and a bunch of other problems I have. (I am not going over these dozens of problems that a new updated set would help fix). The people that are upset are freaking out over W2k. I do not use W2k, I have no other clues or infoon anything more than any other users. I only spoke up to tel people to stop mixing W2k with Win98, stop confusing Display Drivers with Video Tools. Get a grip before you continue to freak out.

I know that display drivers and video tools are distinct issues but some problems that concerns video capturing related problems eg. the "green flash" issue is a problem with VT.

In Regards to the above comment that Matrox is waiting for XP and forgetting about Win2k drivers and how people are finding Win2k faulty.

                  1. XP is as they say, just a slightly different flavour to Win2k with obvious Fixes but no major rebuild that I know about.

                  2. I have worked with many different versions of Win98 and now with Win2k.... Sorry but Win2k is sturdy compared to Win98. You can leave win2k on for a long time,,,, and not have to reboot....as well freezes don't happen and if a prog freezes no problem just dump it and turn it back on as With 98 , (I am a pretty heavy user of an OS and really put it through it's paces) But 98 and 2000... with the obvious problem that Matrox doesn't have drivers for my Marvel... I would go Win2k all the way. Win98 as wonderful as some may believe just has too many memory leaks and faults. When you are doing graphics and video editing you can't have a prog freezing on you during something.

enought said. I am with all of you 98 people I do believe that Matrox is and would be letting it's customers down if they just walk away and wait. Yes , they may wait for XP to see what has too happen for their drivers... who knows. By then Marvel will be of less importance to them and tot he rest of us as we will have gone, paid more money for something that performs...Have they come out with Drivers for Rt2000 and RT2500??

Don't forget everyone that we are all interested in one thing... getting our hardware to work on either Win98 or Win2000 and it is not a big ask to have drivers for either OS that WORK PROPERLY... otherwise we would not have bought this card

And yes to the above, I am Maltese and contact me on adebattista@dingoblue.net.au down in australia

Out of curiosity, and checking my memory for accuracy I dug out my box for my Marvel G400 and looked at what it says on the box, for drivers. it says "Drivers for Windows 98 and 95." it looks like that Matrox went the extra mile for more operating systems. While as dissapointed as W2K users are and must be, I wondered at which point did Matrox promise 'Full Support' for which operating systems and what did that support state ?
Again Display Driver, Video Tools, and the OS's and the support stated, promised, delivered, the history and length of time supported for previous versions, OS's Video Cards, etc..etc...
I think that Matrox , like most agencies, companies, organizations, and governments, they usually screw up badly in public relations and refuse to be honest and answer questions until something blows up, big time, in public relations. I wonder if maybe there were to many misunderstanding, rumors, and bogus information that was not answered promptly, correctly, truthfully, and it all got out of hand. Had they just told us what was going on, (not their industry secrets) but just leveled with us, their customers, on what was going on with product and support, without ducking us like some government agency run-amuck, this situation would have not developed into scared and pissed off customers. --- IMHO ---

And so the busy beaver went to work once again... busily pulling out partition magic and creating a new partition whereby one could reload Win98 thereby reactivating my old friend Mr Marvel....Dual booting is my friend the beaver said, and he went away slapping his tail in the water.

I have entered the cave and met the dragon... now, I am not afraid.

YUY2 support is *not* provided for RR-G series cards. For a thread consolidating discussion on this specific topic, please see

It's funny, when I ordered this card 2 months ago, Matrox didn't say anything about it being a product

                            ONLY DESIGNED FOR WINDOWS 98

nor did i see that on their web page. for those of you who have had this card for a couple years, maybe you don't feel to bad about this. but, for those of us who just bought this card, it's a different story.

Yup. Dualboot is the solution for those who want MJPeg support at times. Do it myself on mixed Marvel/DV systems.

                                Quote from datasheet:

                                Bus support AGP enabled system

Operating system Windows 98 or Windows 95

                                etc. etc.

Now, I know that later on statements were made that Matrox wanted to support Win2K. I also know that they really wanted to. The problem is that fundamental incompatabilities between VfW hardware MJPeg and Win2K overtook the situation.

Like I said before: at least they tried. I know several card makers who wouldn't have even gone that far.
