  • 0 frames captured. Marvel G200 / XP near to work.

    Hello murcers. I'm new here.

I've built myself a new computer for my beloved Marvel G200 using a
    ECS K7VTA3 r5, with the KT333 chipset with AGP2X and 333FSB,
an Athlon XP Barton 2500, 1 Gig of RAM, Western Digital raid HDDs...
    Using Win XP Pro SP2

Computer works excellent with firewire capture, but problems arise when
I tried to use the Analog Capture with the G200.

Soon I realised that microsoft drivers are useless for capture, and installed
next drivers/software: (explained to help users seeking info on how to make
    the G200 work under XP)

    - ADIS drivers found at "http://station.computercor.net/".
    - PowerDesk v5.92.006+ (requre patching for G200, see below)
    - VideoTools v3.05

    - Patched the Powerdesk drivers file G200.INF with the info found at:
BTW: Driver install will work in english, but not in spanish.

    - Suffered from the blank screen issue, and replaced the rr2ctrl.sys with
the one offered by matrox at:
    "ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/utils/ts_27aug01/rr2ctrl.zip"

    - Then I installed PicVideo MJPEG codec r3 evaluation edition from
    "http://www.pegasusimaging.com/cgi-bin/download2.cgi?PICVIDU3"

Capture software: VirtualDub, AVI_IO and PC-VCR (MAtrox).

OK, now it just looks like it's working, as I can see the preview image in
the screen (device=Matrox VidCap Driver) but when starting to capture
using MJPEG encoder, It just keeps saying "0 frames captured" in the status line.
The resulting AVI will contain audio, but no video.

In fact, I could get it to work 2 times making random testing, and could see the
frames counter working in the status line, and the resulting AVI is excellent (G200 rules!).
But don't know how to reproduce it.

Any help to solve this "0 frames captured" issue?

I've found that it might be a problem with PCI audio cards?
    See:"http://forums.dvdoctor.net/archive/index.php/t-10860.html"
But I'm using integrated VIA AC97 VT1612A soundn card, and no chance to reuse
    my old ISA SBAWE64.

G200 works excellent using RGB capture, but I want to take advantage of the
    hardware MJPEG encoder.

    Thankyou.

The only way I've been able to use my G200 or G400 the way I want to is under Windows 98 SE. I'm set up to dual-boot between 98SE and Win2K. If I want to use hardware mjpeg I capture in Win98 with zero dropped frames (except where the split occurs during capture due to the 2 GB filesize limit). I use PD 5.41 and VT 1.52, as these have consistantly proven to be the most stable and reliable for my purposes (YMMV).

If I want to cap from a digital source with no filesize limit I use Win2K and bypass the Marvel completely.

I know some of the guys have gotten Adis' drivers to work with Win2K and WinXP, unfortunately I'm not one of them. When I finally retire the Marvel I'll probably be replacing it with a Canopus ADVC300 and an external tuner so I can cap EVERYTHING in DV.

Don't know if this is any help, but that's where the situation stands at my end.
