  • Anyone Running Windows XP?

Well all may be lost for hardware MJPEG under Windows 2000 but maybe there is a Knight in shining armour riding to our rescue in the guise of Bill Gates with Windows XP! In the last couple of days since the VT news broke I've had several reports of people beta testing Windows XP using Marvel G200s, Marvel G400s and Rainbow Runner-G combos all who say that MJPEG capture works fine "out of the box" with XP. Can anyone add anything to this?

Any info on what drivers they are using? I have XP beta 2 installed (waiting for SP1), but as yet I did not test any Matrox related stuff. Main reason: I wanted to wait for the new drivers.....

I did ask Haig about XP campatibility but only got his standard response. XP is/will not be supported. I guess it is up to us to figure out if we can find a stable working environment.

Because the current drivers for the G400/RRG combination are pretty useless I intend to wait another "3 weeks" for whatever Matrox releases then. By that time XP SP1 should be out too.

They are just using whatever drivers come with XP I believe, they have not installed any additional Matrox drivers.

Some of this may be due to a new feature of XP: Application Compatability.

        Here's what's no the XP site about it;

"Hundreds of applications that didn’t run in Windows 2000 Professional will run on Windows XP Professional, right out of the box.

If an application is not natively supported by Windows XP Professional, a user or system administrator can specify if the application needs to run in either a Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95/98/Me compatibility mode, giving the program an opportunity to execute appropriately without a noticeable loss of performance.

As programs are updated for the new operating system, the updates will be available on the Windows Update Web site."

There may still be hope. Obviously Microsoft is aiming at fixing Win2K's incompatabilities by replacing it, not by fixing it.

          When using BETA1:
I installed the latest drivers/vt from the matrox site. everything worked fine except - after capturing, pcvcr will not close properly. window closes but audio is still on, taskmanager still shows pcvcr.
          - After capturing and stopping, and trying to start again, the computer would just reboot.
          - leaving pcvcr on for too long will also cause a reboot because there is a memory leak. I noticed that after a couple hours, I would have no HD space left. and when it runs out, it reboots.
          - also everytime I closed pc-vcr, I would get a crash error from dr watson. this did not cause any problems.

          in BETA2:
if I do the same and install the latest drivers from matrox,
          - PCVCR can start, and I can watch tv, but when I tried closing it, the window would close and the audio would remain. pcvcr would stay in the taskmanager. It was as if I tried capturing video.

PCVCR worked fine if I justed used the drivers that came with winxp. The only thing was that tv tuner was not available.

also I was not able to play MJPEG clips.

For those people that claim that things are working, please tell me which driver versions you are using
