Kinda confines it to a small niche. How many cable system converter boxes have the 1394/I-link? and if so is it active?
My Time-Warner HD-DVR box has an SATA connector for an external drive, but as far as I can tell nothing exists to use it and it may not even be active. Bad thing about the cable boxes is they dump firmware "updates" on you in the middle of the night, so far, mostly they have not improved features or functionality, only reduced it. I'm seriously thinking of dropping it in the second room.
