  • Haupage WinTV + g400 + win2k = fun?

I sold my RRG, and my G400 is on the way out. Does anyone know if the WinTV and the G400 and Win2k mix to create a solution where I can watch TV and record TV shows to my harddrive for later viewing? Also anyone have any experience with NVidias twinView?

Yeah... nVidia's Twinview is stolen Matrox DH technology that doesn't even come close to comparing to the original!... ie there is gross lacking of features that DH has and there is no twinview in Win2K... unless they've already reverse engineered how M did that too.

BTW I'm hearing fairly good thinks out of the Hauppauge ranks about the WinTV PRV.

I have the WinTV FM stereo PCI card and it works very well with the G400... just not on the second head (hopefully they'll fix that overlay issue)

There is something weired with the G450 DVDmax and the Hauppauge WinTV on W2K. No dual head when the TV plays in a window unless I drag the window (I have display contenets while dragging enabled) then it plays out the dual head while dragging!

Wally, does enabling 'scale only on page flip' in the DVD-MAX settings panel help? I've had exactly the same problem with my Pinnacle PCTV Pro, and it either had something to do with the colour chroma for the overlay window (purple in stead of black), or with this setting (never figured it out as I sold the POS pinnable card).

Can't remember if I tried "Scale only on page flip" or not with the WinTV window.

Problem with these "advanced settings" is many fix one type of AVI DVDmax playback and break another. This also depends on driver version. I've not had time to try all possibilities -- probably never will -- but I'll try this next time I fire up WinTV.

                Hi,

I use a WinTV along with the Marvel G400-TV under Win2K. They play well together for video editing.

I have another machine with a GeForce2 (no TVOut) and a WinTV. I do not do video editing on it. However, I do use it for watching TV, recording shows, listening to the radio, etc while doing office work. I just use WinVCR. There are oodles of programs out there. Check out Intervideo's WinDVR.

If you just want to have a TV/VCR like feature, you do not need too much. The standard WinTV-Go (~$49) does the trick well enough. If you want more sound features (Dolby, radio, etc.), go for the WinTV-Theater. The only caveat is you do need a good CPU for software recording. If you don't have that, the WinTV-PVR (PAL users: make sure you get the latest revision) does this nicely.

IMHO, save the money and get the most basic card that meets your needs. Spend the money on a good CPU and harddrive.
