Las Vegas, NAB, April 25, 2006 - Just a week before NAB, Silicon Imaging announced it would demonstrate its new SI-1920HDVR high definition camera system. We could say camcorder because, with its built-in dual core CPU running Windows XP, which saves the video to a 160 GB laptop hard drive, tje SI-1920 is technically a camcorder. However, this 16:9 format camera head, with a single 2/3” CMOS sensor, attached to a computer for storage, is really designed to be mounted on a tripod. It is more the size of a 16mm film camera, especially after you attach a 35 or 16mm lens with hood and filter slots. But, if this size gets to be too limiting, the camera head can be detached and linked to the computer storage unit via Gigabit Ethernet, making the camera much more portable. Also, two camera heads can be mounted side-by-side for shooting 3D video.

Brian, if you don't install IE6 or IE7 and starts to browsing, the cam will go quite well.

If you need Internet connection you can connect a USB DVD ROM and run a Knoppix Live CD with Firefox.

No internet: no crashes, no microsoft updates, no pop-ups, malware, etc....

And for coffe breaks you can install MAME.

And, pray, tell me how you can install XP without IE. This was the whole MS anti-trust argument, that IE was not an add-on but an integral part of XP.

I would think, since this is a mobile device, that it is probably running Windows XP Embedded SP2. Windows CE.net and Windows XP Embedded with SP2 boot like lightning on slow EPIAs.

I've been recently working quite a bit with both, and I find them both to be good performers once tailored for their targetted use: you do NOT have to install IE on either platform.

The chief difference between WinCE.net and WinXP Embedded are the architecture support (WinCE supports many non-x86 platforms, while XP Embedded is primarily aimed at the x86 platofrm) and how they run executables: WinCE needs to have most applications compiled specifically for it. Windows XP Embedded will support most, if not all, 32bit Third party software right out of the box.
