  • Great Freeware Video Capture Program - Follow-up

    Hi!

This is really a follow-up to this thread: http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum2/HTML/006522.html

in which Flying Dutchman reported about some free software he had located on the net.

Well, I've been using FreeVCR for the last week or so, and I find it to be a trully excellent piece of software - and it's free! It has all the best features of AVI_IO and virtualdub, but has an even better interface. All the settings are immediately available on the opening control page, and things like the capture file setting can be edited directly. The same screen includes CPU useage, and data rate, which I think is indespensible. The only thing it lacks is the VU audio level bands in AVI_IO.

It sets up serial numbered sequencial files of up to 4 GB, just like AVI_IO. The most recent English release is Beta6, available here: http://gmouchard.multimania.com/freeVCR/freeVCR-en.html
which performs faultlessly for me, but there is a French Beta7. What remains to be done, I have no idea, as it seems finished to me.

I recommend everyone interested in desktop video tries it. This is another great example of the astounding range of freware/shareware for desktop video availble on the net!!

By the way, although I have hardly posted here before, I have been reading, and appreciating these forums for several years, as I have gone through Millenium I, Marvel G200, and G400Max cards. Usually, I have been able to find help with my technical problems on these pages very quickly, so thanks guys. I tinker all the time with my hardware/software, so problems arise all the time!

My current DTV computer is Marvel G200, Celeron 800, Abit BH7, Maxtor 10GB 7200rpm.

Hope you all find this usefull!!

Aha, you're a few days out of date! There appears to be an English version of Beta7 now.

I haven't tried it yet, but thanks for the info.
