You think that's bad? My son, the musician, decided to "explore" music from various cultures.

Of course this meant about 3 weeks of the house being filled with with Middle Eastern (mostly Turk & Egyptian), Polka, Zydeco and Cajun.

The Zydeco/Cajun wasn't too bad but my poor brain isn't tuned to the Middle Eastern note structure :-P

To enjoy mid eastern music, you need some preparation.

Get yourself a bottle of ouzo or scotch, one of these http://www.techism.com/narghile/en/index.html and enjoy the music. In no time, you'll also be howling like a guy who just busted a hemroid.

Hey! Radiohead ain't THAT bad! Definitely better than that one-eyed turtle who's actually a god and the simple monk with a perfect memory, right This_Idiot?

Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could draw the curtains to stop the youngsters from becoming corrupted? But since we don't seem to have been invaded by hordes of teenagers, maybe we can take the risk. So as long as the level of discussion doesn't dip any further I think we can cop with it. Otherwise it's curtains guys ! (and not nice frilly ones, backlit and soft music playing). Get a grip man, for goodness sakes.

Impact - I certainly wasn't claiming that Radiohead were (or are) in any way BAD. Far from it - as with the others I mentioned, and a million more (hang on, Ironic is ringing thru my brain at the moment). But isn't it hell on earth when you find yourself humming the same thing for the nth time while trying to work out a real problem at work (whatever your work discipline happens to be). Or even worse, waking up in the middle of the night realising that the whole of Madness has been sharing your bed IN YOUR HEAD.

Oh, and A1 on the recognition. The phrase does crop up in a number of books, not just in Small Gods.

                      Cheers

                      Chris

Yup, the native brews will definitely make you like the music alright. Ran into that at my favorite M.E. food stop: La Shish in Dearborn. Best kibbie in town and yes, I like kibbie and most other M.E. concoctions. I just can't handle 6 hours straight of the music....

Now...IF I go to the local Cajun food stop I'll be up there whooping it up with the natives in no time
