1.55 Video Tools with Win98

Hi

Problem I've had in the win2k stuff is it won't decompress -- the installation prog. stops everything when it figures out you're in win98 SE.

My understanding is Microsoft wanted everyone to write to their newer driver model (as used in win2k) when win98 came out. Skipping a lot of stuff here, some of the system workings are similar enough that I have run win2k drivers and programs in win98 SE, sometimes with better results then the same stuff for win98 SE/ME!

Definitely worth a shot if someone else wants to try it -- if you've got backups, imagine there's not a whole lot to lose by trying.

Hi,
Yesterday I removed the 1.52 video tool and I installed the 1.55 version. I've a Marvel G400-TV and Win 98 SE. I applied the YUV flying dutchman patch without any problem (probably the Vidcap16.dll is the same that the one in the video tool 1.52).
Everything was working fine, I tested the MJPEG capture with PC-VCR, I was able to capture a video coming from a VCR during more than 45 minutes, I captured 67689 frames with only 2 frames dropped. I obtained two files : 1984153 Kb & 238761 Kb. The playback was OK with the S-video and the video composite plug, with Windows Media Player or PowerDVD 3.0 . I did not see any macrovision problem, which is strange because the video was coming from a commercial tape (Eastwood movie).
I tried also the YUV capture with FreeVCR and it's working fine, I did not tried longer than a couple of minute.
I tried the playback of a DivX movie and it was working very well.

The only problem I detected it's with Quick Connect. Quick connect is able to detect all the video input & output with all the type of plug and all the format, but at the end I cannot shuting it down, when I press Register/exit, the program do nothing, I'm oblige to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to end it (I'm using the French version of video tool 1.55).

I tried to install the Video Tool 2.02 and each time I have the message "This software doesn't support your operating system". This is very strange because I saw some discussion concerning this video tools installed in Win 98 with a G450 etv & it's written in the documentation that it will work with Win 98. I will post something concerning that in the matrox tecsupport forum.

Upto 3 weeks, at least 3 weeks, uat least 3 weeks, it really makes no difference. They will be out once they are ready which is hopefully not too much longer.
