    I have WinTV PCI FM and it can capture @ 704x756 using PicVideo MJPEG or Huffy, but you have to switch to "preview" mode in AVI_IO etc. Anything up to 352x288 can be done in overlay mode. Even so, I can happily capture for a couple of hours @ 704x576 with just a couple of dropped frames.

      We've got Apple's Final Cut Pro on a G4 Mac in a lab downstairs and to say the least I'm not impressed with FCP. Much more expensive than Premiere6 and I don't see any obvious benefits. There is no decent MPEG encoder for the Mac as far as I can tell either. They had to export DV files on CD-RW that I encoded with TMPGEnc to make MPEG1s for a PowerPoint presentation because FCP appeared incapable of producing anything decent.

      The G4 bombed three times while they were showing it to me. Maybe when OS X gets its act together Mac's will be worth looking at, but I'd not go near one now!

        The G-1200XL Marvel was announced yesterday but won't be available to the general public before this time next year, according to Matrox. By extrapolating past experience, this will be interpreted by the aficianados as Winter 2009, when they will issue the Win 2000 drivers but announce that they have not been able to write Linux drivers, despite repeated promises. However, the price is really attractive, free with a packet of cornflakes, which will be what it is worth, because hi-res TV will be available by then.

        Dream on !

        PS I see this is announced as my message # 500: have I really been moaning that length of time?

          @Cyberhof:

          The review in the German CT magazine for the Wintv PCR wasn't too good - they say the image is unsharp. Hauppauge claims that future drivers would solve this problem (but it remains to be seen).

            Ahhh that's to bad...
            Well I might go for it anyway and hope that the drivers will be updated and the image will be clearer.
            It's right on my budget...

              Waiting for drivers to fix certain issues is what got us here in the first place... Are you gonna take that risk a second time ?

                Hi

                For right now I'm just waiting to get my marvel fixed.

                I was wondering though what anyone found out about the osprey cards. Saw a review in DV, which gave the 200 a middle of the road rating, but it also said the 220 might be an improvement.

                Thanks
                mike

                  1. The WinTV PVR seems to be very problematic. The german speaking should have a look at dvdboard.de. I think I have never seen so many postings about problems with a capture card...
                  2. I still use my Marvel G400 as video card, but bought a Fast/Dazzle DVD.master. And I'm very satisfied with this soultion. You don't have to bother about drops or sync. But... you get Mpeg files - so you are not so free with editing. It depends on what you want to do. If you only want to capture, cut and burn a (S)VCD this solution works well.

                    @Flying dutchman

                    You got a point there

                    But I can't find any good alternatives in the same price range...

                    Got any good ideas?

                    Regards

                      There doesn't seem to be one card that stands out as the best card.

                      Every TV/video capture card has some problem with it.

                      I'm trying to pick the least worst card.

                        Atleast you guys got G400s. I'm sitting here with my Marvel G200, actually glad I didn't buy a G400. Not saying I'm not happy with my G200, in fact it's done me wonders, but since I play 3D games it just ain't cuttin' it.

                        I was taking a look at the WinTV Theater, but really not sure what I'm going to do. Although I do play games, upgrading my vid card is towards the bottom of upgrades I want.

                          don't laugh, but I've had 2 friends with very good success with the ATI wonder card series.
