Mine is lighter in he frame requiring less ballast.
I once built one for <$10 out of some left over maple & oak. The big studio boom used for the 8x10 camera is one I built in ~1970 out of poplar & redwood.

I see Studio 1 Productions is also getting into the "steady cam" market:
Looks a bit spendy.

The "Merlin" by Tiffen looks great...
...but at $799 the price seems fairly unreasonable.
The "SteadiCam Jr. Lite" also looks great:
...but $550 - $650.
Whew.
