  • Intel "Conroe" Quad Core moved up to Q4 2006 - Bad news for AMD

Not only is AMD being pounded by Conroe dual cores being faster per clock cycle AND able to achieve higher overall clockspeeds, but now Intel is claiming they will have quad core versions by the end of the year.

Even if AMD could get out a quad core in time it would be no match for the Intel offerings unless they could also get new core out as well. Which of course if very unlikely.

Now I might have to wait until Q4 for one of these quad core Conroe beasts before upgrade!

I think this will benefit us in many ways...

1-The current CPU will drop in price allowing people to afford much needed upgrades.

2-The AMD CPU's, aside from the current Intel Conroe series still kicks Intels butt, as they are more effeciant, the Intel price tags on those CPU's will be sky high, and no one will be able to buy one for some time.

3-This will motivate AMD to work harder at releasing their quad core CPU's as they are currently in the end states of developement.

so great news overall, competition is good for all of us :-)

    Regards,
    Elie

      The competition is definitely great.

The pricing on the Conroe chips is actually quite reasonable.
