  • MSP6 hits a 5GB limit in Win2K

    AndrewDV,

What Matrox drivers are you using?
I have not been able to capture with AVI_IO and YUY2 under Win2000 at all. With the year old beta drivers the system crashes, and with the new VT2.04 drivers YUY2 does not show up as option in AVI_IO, only in PC-VCR. That prevents me from using HuffYUV ;(

    Hi,

Until the new Matrox drivers are out for Win2K, I'm using the WinTV-Radio card for captures. When the drivers are released, I'll re-evalue what to do then.

What are your MSP6 project settings?

I've created DV output files on NTFS that were a tad over 23 GB with MSP6 with no troubles.

Perhaps something in your project settings is trying to create VfW AVI file format which would have problems beyond 4GB.

          LOL!

Company {insert name here} drags its feet a bit, I'm looking elsewhere. With the latest set of news, I'm feeling a bit disheartened there is ever going to be anything for Win2K and the G400-TV.

            MSP6 hits a 5GB limit in Win2K

            Hello,

I have a new project under way. The captures were done in Win2K using AVI_IO (Huffyuv at 352x480 res).

After triming the video in MSP6, I tried to create a single AVI (Huffyuv or PIC MJPEG) to my FT100 setup (NTFS). I wanted to create a single file for simplicity. Everything goes fine until the file size is about 5GB. At that point, MSP chokes and displays the "insufficient space" message.
I wanted to create a single file for simplicity.

Is this a problem with MSP6? I have the latest updates as well as the DVD Plug-in.

Also, I tried creating a single MPEG2 file using the updated Ligos engine. It goes about half way, then completely chokes the system (doh! doh! doh!).

            Any suggestions?

            Here is my system specs:
            AMD 1.2 GHz
            IWill KK266-R
            128MB
            Matrox Marvel G400-TV
            Promise FT100
            Hauppage WinTV-Radio
            TB Santa Cruz
            1-20GB WD drive (non-RAID)
            1-20GB Maxtor drive (non-RAID)
            2-45GB IBM 75Gxp drives (RAID0)
            1-Panasonic 16x slot DVD
            1-Mitsu CDRW

Just in case, here is the basic software setup:
            Win2K SP2
            WMP7.1
            DirectX7
            VIA 4-in-1 4.32
            Quicktime 4
            Ulead MSP6 + DVD Plug-in
            AVI_IO
            Amorphium
            Ulead PhotoImpact
            Ulead Cool3D
            AlamDV
.... and other common tools (MP3 editors, TMPGEnc, etc)....

There are no IRQ conflicts or anything like that.

            Any thoughts, suggestions, or similar?

            Thank you

Oddly enough, PIC MJPEG works just fine after playing around with the project properties. The files turn out great. Encoding to Huffyuv is still reaching the odd 5GB limit.

Just for your interest, I also have found this problem.

For archiveing reasons, I have split my 45 minutes
704x576 MJPEG video to nine files (on CD).

I now re-read them on a harddisc and wanted to
create a SVCD out of it. So I wanted to export

                a) aprox. 6,5 GB AVI 704x576 MJPEG
                b) 480x576 HUFFYUV

which would (and did) both hit a limit of aprox. 5 GB.
Yes, I used NTFS (on W2K-SP2).

I use the combo for 200/RRG on Marvel 400, so I guess
it is 2.02 vt with the 200er display drivers.

The leaked drivers/vt 2.04 where much more unstable
                for me.

Beside this effect, which I could work around by usage
of AviSynth and TmpgEnc just fine, everything is ok for
                me.

                Regards,
                Karlson.

                  Hi,

Thanks for the input. Do you do anything out of the ordinary when writing your AVISynth script? I've used the unalignedsplice routines with a fair amount of success.

                  Thank you

                    No, just

                    - virtually joining some AVIs
                    - using a PAL de-interlacer
                    - crop the ugly 6 Matrox lines in the bottom
                    - put everything in a 720x576 letterbox
                    - scale down to 480 x 576 PAL SVCD format.

Then, I read this with TmpgEnc, use the standard
PAL SVCD, change it a bit and hit enter.

All effords to first create a resized AVI that I can play
around with did not work, because either, the 5 GB
limit hit me, or, when I used VirtualDub, the files
could not be read by TmpgEnc.

I now want to check other MPEG-2 encoders also.
Will see if they work with AviSynth.
                    Best Regards,
                    Karlson.

                      Thank you for your input!

I'm hoping that any limits are removed in MSP6.5.
