This player -- according to ARCHOS -- supports many file types:

MPEG-4 ASP, WMV (including protected WMV) and the possibility to read H.264, MPEG-2, and VOB files with optional software plug-ins (codec downloadable from www.archos.com).

I see devices like this evolving to support high definition resolutions using WMV HD or H.264 file types.

And I think it will happen so quickly that high definition DVD formats will have a hard time gaining traction.
