  • Asia (Vietnam) TV format?

    Anyone know what format is used in Vietnam, or at least the most likely one? I can't ask my relatives over there because they'd be like, "What the hell you talking about?"

    Although I could very well be asking the wrong question. Here's the deal:

    I have video of my sister's wedding on a MiniDV camcorder. We want to make a movie and send it back to Vietnam on DVD. What's the best way of doing this to ensure they can play it?

    Thanks,
    Thien

      If you record it in NTSC DVD format on a DVD-R blank, this will work on nearly every DVD player in the world, but keep the total audio + video bitrate down to <7000 kbit/s to ensure best compatibility.

        Whoops, forgot I had a post in this part of the forum.

        I have Taiyo Yuden DVD+R discs... is DVD-R more compatible with international players?

        Thanks guys.

          Generally speaking, yes, and all players, including those in your own country; it is not a question of international standards. DVD+R came in 2 or 3 years after DVD-R and players manufactured in those intervening years do not all accept the +R format, although I think all modern players accept both formats equally. If you do a Google search, you can find several sites that list known DVD players and their disk/standards compatibilities and even lists of makes of DVD±R disks and their compatibility with players, although this is unreliable as there is much sub-contracting between disk makers and there may be formulation differences between batches.

            Lots of compatability tests done here;

            Search the DVD players and each will display the status for each disc type.

            VERY useful site.
