  • Matrox RT10x

    Hi Ya Folks,
I may be getting a friend of a friend's RT10x setup. I don't know if that means computer and everything or just the RT10X card and software. All will be known on Sat. when I go with my friend to check it out.
I just have a quick question.
Must the RT10x and computer be used only as a dedicated Video editting computer, or can I use it as an everyday computer as well? ( with multi hard drives of course )
The wife factor comes into play here. If I can hide this RT10x into one computer then great, less she knows keeps everybody happy, but if I have to keep two boxes near my desk...well I might just have to sweet talk her a bit.. or it's going to cost me painting the living room.
    Thanks

yes you can keep the RTX.10 is an everyday system providing you have multiple dedicated drives as you indicated for video editing and that you're not running multiple applications at the same time while editing, like MSN, Skype etc.

I have both the RT.X100 and the RT.X10 each running in an everyday computer without problems.

    Regards,
    Elie

I've got an RTX10 setup as well and use it quite extensively for other apps.
As for hiding it, the dongle does kinda stick out like a sore thumb
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!

at least the dongle is not as big as a second box. It would have been hard to justify another computer, but upgrading is more stealthy.

        Okay so here's another question..
Remember the old days of DOOM play, I used to boot up from a floopy so that I would boot up with the minimum so that Doom would play great on my system. Is there a way with WinXP to have like a dual boot? You know like select an option to boot up with only requirements for video editting, and other times to boot up with the virus checker, firewall, MSN etc...

        Thanks for the info guys
Lunch time is the time for meeting up with the guy.
        Have a great Saturday.

Never tried the dual boot, but my system comes up fully loaded with a few software dongles as well, and I have never had a problem with my RT working.
          some thing to consider:
check the software that comes with it. I am not sure of the compatability of Premiere 6 or 6.5 with Windows XP. Premiere Pro is fine.
The original package also came with a tutorial disk.
You may want to check the compatability list for your hardware. Via chipsets are not recommended. As a side note, my mobo is not listed and it works fine.
You can view the forums http://forum.matrox.com/rtx10/ to see if anyone has had any compatability issues.
All in all it's a great card - I am really impressed with what you can do in real time with it, considering the price.

              Thanks guys,
Had a great bit of luck yesterday. Turned out the friend of a friend was a great old high school buddy of mine. So I got the RT10x, a P750 and Premiere pro 1 or 1.5, for a cost of lunch, a few beers and an afternoon of conversation. Just when I find this guy, he's leaving for BC in a couple of weeks because of a new job.

I'll have a lot more questions in setting up this beast into my machine. But I've got some stuff to do today, so I can't play with my new toy just yet.
Also what the heck happened to the matrox support forum?? When did they can it?

                Great score!

They canned the forums about a month or so back, but the forums for the video division are still up.
