Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus emerges from the review as "the most balanced."

      Not too surprising.

If you are intrested in cheap video editing/authoring packages, take a look at Magix Edit. Usually on sale at Frys for from $30 to free after rebate (if you've got one of the "competitive update" packages proof of purchase).

Still works with Windows2000sp4 too. Ulead and others could learn from their automatic bug fix update download and install feature -- and unlike Nero's I didn't have to reboot after udating. Nero really stinks here, I installed the new Nero7 enhanced from a retail box on a virgin PC. Used their tool to "update" basically everthing and only two reboots later I could actually burn a disk

The Sony/Vegas Movie Studio+DVD usually comes in under $100 after rebate (I'm down on Sony lately for a variety of reasons, but they have so far been very efficient honoring rebates). I don't recommend it though because it has an obnoxious and obtrusive registration/activation system built in. It also still works with Windows2000sp4.
