    Anyone ever play with this, or at least the softwares it comes with for VE?

    As far as I can tell PiTiVi is devoid of useful functionality, being little more that a user interface shell, unless its had a major overall in the past six weeks or so.

    Kino is usable. Will capture from DV cam do basic cuts and output a nice H.264/MP4 564 Kbps or higher avi file. But really about the Videostudio 3 level.

    Cinepaint is derived from the Gimp and is said to be very good at what it does, but I've no need to use it and haven't played with it.

    I think for video, DyneBolic is a better starting point to play with Linux video editing. Cinerella has potential, but won't do anything with DV untill you convert your DV avi files to the QuickTime wrapper format -- Kino works well for this.

      The only tools I've used extensively are virtualdub and Ulead Video Studio
