The problem appears to be related to the ATI Radeon HD graphics card and its required driver.
Funny thing is the *exact* same thing is happening on my brand new DELL at work.

It's the Radeon HD graphics display adapter.

Today I updated the driver to the latest version in hopes of solving the issue.

I'm running a very fast DELL at work... it has 2GB of memory and a core 2 duo processor.

You know I think AMD/ATI graphics drivers have gone downhill since the AMD take over. Years ago ATI drivers were really not very good, back in the original AIW days. Then a few years ago they got on a schedule of regular releases and things got a lot better. Now it seems things not so good on the driver front.

I bought my current X1900 AIW based on my past positive experiences with the AIW line. In order to not have this thing always recording (for live view) I had to use and earlier driver release and change a registry value. Plus the remote control installation was very finicky. I did get it all working correctly but it wasn't the normal zip zat done install I'm used to. Sadly this will be my last ATI/AMD card. Or at least until or if they get their act together. I think this was my 4th or 5th AIW card. I remember having a 128 AIW, 128 AIW Pro, and the AIW 9000. There might have been another one in there I can't remember right now too. The 9000 was the best of the lot for me. Decent 3D, very cool running, solid drivers, good TV quality, and good video in quality.

Next time I'm going with a separate HD tuner and video card. I hear this new Pinnacle HDTV card is pretty good. They were doing them on WOOT today. Supposedly you can tune in your broadcast cable stations like CBS, NBC, FOX, etc... in HD.
