  • Analyst: Apple TV sales below expectations

    Interesting!

    This is news?

Granted, this is probably the first report of this kind about the success, or lack therefore of, the Apple TV; however, it's been long known that it hasn't been as big a hit as some might have hoped. Then again, after the initial push, Apple has done little if nothing to further promote the device. Several of the people I know who have one are fond of it, but like many similar devices before it, the Apple TV failed to reach its potential.

As far the advice at the end, there are rumors that Apple is looking at movie rentals and a pricing scheme for purchasing movies that is more to the liking of the studios. The problem is, the prices could go as high as $15 where the bare-bones downloads would have to compete head-on with DVD's.

Consumers still don't understand wireless networking in the home.

When they catch on... the adoption of APPLE TV and other such devices will be dramatic.

      I plan to buy one.

I have to tell you, I still think the Apple TV is going to sell big time.

Most hobbyist videographers are barely figuring out how it works at this point in history.

It's going to sell because so many camcorders on the market right now are still standard definition camcorders.

In addition, many high definition camcorders on the market are 720p camcorders.

So APPLE TV supports both standard definition, high definition (720p) and a special "middle" resolution (960 x 540) that offers the advantaqe of compact file sizes but with quality higher than DVD.

It's really an amazingly well-designed unit.

But I think APPLE is going to upgrade the APPLE TV very soon.

            It will silence the naysayers.

I think if you want a media player type of thing the popcornhour would be a better bet.

Some succes would be better at "silencing", not upgrades/beeing well designed. It's not like Apple didn't make products that weren't selling...
And I have no idea what's your logic about standard definition cams beeing the cause...not only in this; and I think I'm not alone.

You really don't understand why it's going to succeed, but that's OK.

                  Suit yourself.

                  Let's just wait and see.

I'm confident the APPLE TV is going to soar within the next 12 months.

They may sell a few units but I don't think it will soar.

Apple started offering the TV in Canada, we'll see how it goes here
