I’m really surprised that Windows Vista gets as much bad press as it does when Microsoft has an operating system that’s worse. Much worse. I am of course talking about Windows Home Server. Microsoft’s biggest lemon - Windows Home Server is bad in a way that you just don’t want your OS to be. We’re not talking about poor performance or dropping a few FPS in your favorite game. Windows Home Server has the capacity to hose your data. For an OS, that’s bad, but for a filer server OS, that’s a disaster.

Microsoft's Worst Disaster: Windows Home Server

Luckily these things are greatly exaggerated. Only a very small number of users have experienced what has become known as the "data corruption bug".
IMHO, Windows Home Server is an excellent product with a great potential. It's very user friendly and has modest cpu and memory requirements. Still, MS recommends backing up any really critical data to external storage, at least until the bug has been fixed.
Comparing WHS to your average server system isn't fair: it's intended for home use on home user's systems, the latter almost always being non-redundant.-Off the beaten path I reign-
