I am very interested in the Canon HF10/100 but am wondering if anyone has a workflow to extract 24p from these cameras? I know that they are natively progressive cameras so video comes off the imager 24p in the 24PsF mode. Then due to legacy reasons the video goes through a 2:3:3:2 pulldown to be stored in a 60i wrapper.
I brought some of that video into Vegas Pro 8 and from what I could see the 2:3:3:2 pulldown was not being reversed. The result should be the original 24p video signal that came off the imager.
I'm not talking about the normal 2:3 pulldown here. That is a delivery format for converting 24p to 60i for viewing. 2:3:3:2 is a method to store 24p in a 60i wrapper so that it may be reversed so the original 24p signal may be edited.
I asked Canon and received the following non-helpful message:
"Thank you for your interest in the HF100. We value you as a Canon
customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
We are sorry to inform you that Canon does not supply specifications to
or test with other manufacturers products. Therefore, we can offer no
advice on specific editing programs. Those programs are supported by
the software companies. Because there are so many editing programs
available, it is not possible for us to offer support or to catalog
those programs. We recommend that you contact the software
manufacturers, or perhaps visit their websites, to find the information
you seek. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
For further assistance, please call our Canon Pre-Sales Department at
1(800) 828-4040 between 8:00 am and midnight ET, seven days a week. The
Pre-Sales agents can assist you with product information and dealer
locations.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with the
HF100.
Thank you for choosing Canon.
