I have been using Nero Vision for transcoding avi to mpg. The video quality and speed of encodeing is quite remarkable but the audio volume level drops by about 50% when using Dolby Digital AC-3. Are there any volume settings I could be missing ?

Right-click the A/V file on the timeline and select "Properties". The audio level slider is on that dialog and by default set to 50%. This should work for all exported audio streams.

Hi Doc. Thanks for the tip. You're still A1.
Doc. What's your opinion on the YASA MPEG encoder ? I'm testing it right now and it looks quite good.

Before spending any money on an encoder why not try a free one like Super? It uses ffmpeg and a couple other free encoders with a front end that has extensive controls and a list of codecs as long as your arm. Can't beat the price and it's pretty fast.

Truth be told a LOT of mpeg encoders by smaller companies use ffmpeg as their core.Last edited by Dr Mordrid; 11 July 2008, 10:44.Dr. Mordrid

Thanks Doc., I'll try it. True, as you say, the site is very confusing and never managed to get a download. However I manage to find it here from the mirror:
