  • Cable for Rainbow Runner Studio (on Mystique 220)

    Hello,

I acquired an old Matrox "sandwitch" duo PCI card. It turned out to be Matrox Mystique 220 with Rainbow Runner Studio ("my22op/41" label on the main PCB and "myst/rrsti" label on the add-on PCB).

However, I did not get any cables with it. The previous owner got the card on some resale lot and he even did not know (and did not care) what he had.

It seems that I am missing the cable as the one shown on this picture (this is also Mystique 220 with RRS):

This cable plugs in the non-standard black connector on the Mystique card, right?

    ===========

    THE QUESTION:

Where can I get this cable for small cash, or can I modify some other cable??

    Regards!

This Might be your best bet.

Not knowing how those are wired, it might be tricky trying to make one.

      Thank you for this link!!

I also think that it's more reasonable to buy another complete Myst+RRS set than to improvise on mine, but I just tried to see what kind of suggestions there are (or to find only the cable itself).

However, this thread is not closed. All other suggestions, links, tips, etc. are still welcome.

Hi sugest you check what u need ie. NTSC or Pal there are compatable problems here.

I have two cables both not in use?? But They are in New Zealand.

I have seen the wire layout somewhere but it might take me a while to recall where to access it

I would be willing to part with both cables and both cards (Pal) but it is all in New Zealand

        Good luck in your quest

This is the pinout for the RRS cable.
          DB 15 S-video and Comp

          4 (S-Video out) - 1,4
          3 (S-Video out) - 2,3
          7 (S-Video in) - 1,4
          6 (S-Video in) - 2,3
8 (Comp in) -Gnd, Comp in
5 (Comp out) - Gnd, Comp out

          DB 15 ONLY:

          10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 -Gnd to its shell.

          4-11
          3-10
          7-14
          6-13
          8-15
          5-12

This is how you do a NTSC to PAL hack
          1. open up the RR remote control and set up the input to NTSC. save and close remote.

          2. Right click on desktop to bring up display info. Go to "TV OUT". Click on the box "OUTPUT TO TV". Set display to 640x480 and check the "FORCE FIT TO TV" box. At this point make sure that you have a TV monitor or VCR plugged into the RR just incase you can not read your monitor. Click APPLY and OK

          3. Run up the RR remote again and set to line. Right click on mouse and check "PLAY FULL SCREEN"

4.Press record and play on the VCRs and all should happen.

I did notice that there is a small black band at the top and bottom of the TV screen but I guess that this is the difference between 525 input and 625 lines output.

It’s not the most wonderful setup but for a quick and dirty standards converter it will do. I guess that the reverse setup is done for PAL to NTSC conversion.

I APOLOGIZE for this long delay without a reply. I had set this thread to instant email notification, but Gmail probably trashed the notification(s) in spam, so I missed them.

That's why I hate spam. Because of it I miss the true information. This reminds me of one statement:

"In a righteous world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for wild swinger parties."

            Back to the subject:

@cuddles: I will contact you trough PM.

@paulw: Thank you VERY much for this guide! It is astounding that somebody in year 2009 still knows (or knows where to dig up) this information!
