Ulead Details MPEG-2: New VideoStudio 4.0

VS4 is now THE beginners package without question.
I think the question of Uleads support for DV and MPEG-2 in MSP6 has been answered. NOT coming out with at least as powerful a set of abilities in MSP6 would be massively stupid.
This is also one helluva lot of power for a beginners editing program. The one other thing in this ad I'd like to see in MSP6 is the onscreen editing of titles. That's a great idea.
Also, did you notice the ability to use MP3 audio on the timeline? Major advantage.
Now if someone at Matrox would take the hint and s**tcan Avid Cinema in future consumer grade product releases....

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Ulead doesn't seem to give a da*n about MSP. I have 5.2 and I like it. It ticks me off that there Web site treats it like unwanted children. You can go there for 8 months and it hasn't changed a tic. No updates. No (decent) support. Nothing but the same old stuff.
I've registered twice for the (stupid) list server and never received a single email message. But I get tons of sales pitch messages about GIF animators and Web razors and everything else that I don't care about.
Too bad there isn't a good forum like this for MSP.
It also seems like Ulead is laying on its back and letting Premier trample all over them.

re: Abit's points about Ulead and
MediaStudio Pro 5.2.
Yep---there have been precious few updates
to the MediaStudio Pro Web site. But be
patient: within the next three months
we'll be seeing a boatload of publicity
and perhaps even a complete redo of the
MediaStudio Pro pages.
The key question is: Will MediaStudio Pro
emerge with a "real time" version??????
That's what is needed to truly regain
the advantage Ulead had when MediaStudio 5
eclipsed Adobe's Premiere 4.2.

Ditto, Doc!!
Ulead is now clearly the industry
frontrunner when compared to other
"beginner" video editing packages:
a) Avid Cinema
b) MGI VideoWave II
c) IMSI Lumiere (perhaps?)
Yeah---that MP3 functionality is way
cool.
I'm wondering if the package will allow
one to do a software conversion...
...and convert DV footage to MPEG-2 via
some sort of Ligos-like converter?
If that could be made to work... that
would be one heck of a feature.

MPEG-2 is considered a good archive file type. It's more compact and doesn't take up as much storage space as other formats.
So MPEG-2 is certainly hot right now as
newer technology is being developed that
makes editing/storage of MPEG-2 video
easier and cheaper.
But it all depends on what you wish to
accomplish.
The G400 is a good board.

I want that MJPEG to MPEG2 converter! But I ain't gettin a g400 Marvel. My g200 Marvel will do just fine before, during and after I get a firewire card.
Now if I could fine a Raptor for a good price...

MPEG-2 is fine for distribution, say on a SuperVCD or DVD, but as an editing format it has problems.
Unless the editor edits in I frame you'll have a problem getting frame accurate cuts and effects. Also MPEG-2 is more prone to generational artifacting than DV.
DV can go at least 4 generations with no generational losses.
