There is a free 5.2 VE updata on Uleads MSPro support pages.
Alternatively you can also buy an MSPro 5.2 update package for about $150 USD (North Americans only, officially) that can be installed with no previous version in the system. This is a full version, not VE.
1. Video Paint. This is a rotoscoping tool, meaning you can paint on individual video frames. Handy to say the least once you learn the in's and out's.
2. CG Infinity. Well, not really infinite but a decent titling module.
3. A vectorscope. With this and a tape with some color bars on it you can calibrate your capture card to get more accurate colors and cleaner video. Indispensible once you learn how to use it.
4. The 5.2 update pack comes with Intergraphs VizFX, a collection of really neat special effects. My fave is "Black Hole".
5. TONS more transitions, filters and effects. Tons....
6. VE gives you 3 overlay and audio tracks. Full gives you 99 of each. Perfect if you get tapped to do a space opera.
7. An early edition of Cool3D. Just enough to make you want the latest one.
Cons:
It costs more than free.
Is it worth it? Hell-yeah. Especially if it qualifies you for a reduced price upgrade to MSP 6 when it's released. Now THAT is beginning to sound like a really powerful beast.
Doc ... you're correct.
And in the past few days, I've
been scratching my head, trying to
fully appreciate the meaning of this
Ulead/Ligos **software** MPEG-2
solution... and I'm quite impressed.
If we take a close look at the new
Ulead VideoStudio 4.0's feature set,
we find this is the 1st editor in the
$99 price category to incorporate full-
blown MPEG-2 capture/edit capability.
I wish somebody would find out if
batch capture is possible from MiniDV
or Digital 8 sources. There's no
mention of it on the Ulead page and I'm
suspecting batch capturing might be
reserved for the new MEDIASTUDIO 6.0
to be unveiled later this month.
At any rate, I think it's safe to assume
the Ligos "GoMotion" MPEG-2 technology is
going to be featured in the new
MEDIASTUDIO PRO 6.0.
As processors get faster and faster...
the appeal of the software approach to
MPEG-2 encoding becomes obvious. It's
inexpensive... and puts even us
'boutique' video producers in a position
to compete with the big boys when the
new DVD disc burners come down the pike
at lower prices.
My mouth is watering as I think about this
new version of MediaStudio Pro and the
possibilities for future DVD video
production.
But I just came across a new article by
EMedia Professional Magazine's Jan
Ozer... and it reveals the Ligos
encoder has apparently been improved
since I last tested one of their betas
earlier this year. Ozer now claims LIGOS
is leading the pack!:
Ulead now seems to be focusing on
**software** MPEG-2... and only time
will tell if Ulead's reported C-Cube
**hardware** MPEG-2 solution will
develop as anticipated.
I'd love to read that article but my browser reports the link as broken. Ohwell....
Your conclusions parallel mine on this Ligos topic. I recently acquired a new version of Ligos and was quite impressed with it. It was much better than the version I tried last year on a friends system.
At the cost point they are at things should get real interesting in the low-mid market.
