      here's some before and after shots of a steel block I was working on.
      fyi the block started at 24x18x9 inches and weighed about 1200lbs.
      it produced about 500lbs in steel chips as scrap

          gt40: damn thats cool. I just did a CNC project myself! but nowhere near that scale! Whats the diameter of that slot drill? Looks HUGE! and what kind of feet rate where you using? where you using coolant? looks like the chips are decolourised cuse of the heat! Sweet!

                        cutter was 3" diameter (I have larger, but this one suited the job), running at 450 rpm and 150 in/min. I normally only use coolant on finish passes - carbide likes to run hot. the chips ,as they come off, turn bright blue from the heat.

                                LOL this happens every day in the safari in Africa, Lizzie, it's the course of Nature, you know Lions hunt and so do Hyenas, Wild Dogs, cheatahs and leopards etc.

                                Oh and swans are the worst apperantly LOL
