I chose Matrox Parhelia because of its great performance on 2D.

As you know, LCD WASN'T developed for professional graphic designers.

LCD couldn't catch up with CRT's performance (both speed and color) for a long time,

so I was still working with an old CRT but recently I got a problem..

My CRT started to blink often, and can't display with 1024x768(or above) mode...

I think it's time to replace the CRT with new one and thinking of LCD...

What do you think of recent LCDs??

Are they OK for professional work? or still bad??

Is there anyone working with a LCD monitor??

What do you recommend??

It depends on your needs. If you need absolute color accuracy (for proofing, etc.), there are very few options, and they are very expensive. The NEC Mitsubishi SpectraView 2180WG has a wider color gamut than even very good CRTs, but it's really expensive.

If you don't need 100% accurate colors, there are many more screens with reasonable prices and good enough color. Don't just rush out and buy any TFT though, because especially the cheaper and/or faster (for gaming/Movies) ones aren't optimized for color accuracy.

This would get more replies in the GHW forum. But yes there are now LCDs that are good enough for color. The NEC 2180UX/Lacie 321 seems to be a popular option. I think it's around $1500. You could also take a look at the Eizo L887 and L997 which are in the same price range.

The ones mentioned are good enough for most people, even for professional purposes. If you didn't calibrate your CRTs, most LCDs from EIZO and the larger and more expensive NEC-Mitsubishi ones (and of course others) should be good enough for you.

Thanx to you guys I could decided what I need,

But my problem is that I don't have enough money for those and need a display device (whatever it is) for my work RIGHT NOW.. (At last my CRT's gone last night)

So, I'm thinking of a middle-end LCD that I can use as a second display after I get highend one in the future..

Looking for a 400~700 $ baby..,

What do you think if I get Samsung's or LG's??

(It's because I live in Korea, easy to get them in cheap prices)

Better for getting middleend CRTs than middleend LCDs??

Any ideas??

This is truely an important topic. I believe too that high quality LCDs now can really compete with those old good CRTs. One evidence is that EIZO doesn't produce CRTs any more (I was shocked as I got their confirmation on this piece of news!) But good LCDs are a way more expensive than CRTs with similar quality. I haven't found any LCDs in normal shops with so beautiful colours as seen on my CRT. Two of my neighbours who are architects have recently complained about the IQ of their LCDs - even they were satisfied with the power consumption. My next display will probably be a LCD. I doudt even wether there will be good CRTs still available with reasonable prices. But till then, I hope that my old EIZO CRT (a two-year old baby) will live as long as possible! ;-)

FWIW, I have an Eizo L568, and its image quality is wonderfull... It is my primairy monitory, with my trusty Philips Brilliance 107 as secondary.
The Eizo can display the full sRGB colourspace (there are manufacturers that have monitors that display the entire AdobeRGB colours space) and is configured to optimize for sRGB when I start photoediting software.

My thoughts on it is:
If you get a decent LCD (decent brand, usually higher price range), you'll get a great monitor.

I checked the price of L568 and was very surprised: It's much cheaper than my T766! Time to rethink? I like Eizo!

Edit: I saw several of the exemplars of L568 yesterday in a shop. On the displays a typical screen saver was running (the aquarium - I miss those marvelous After Dark series! Bad dog and so on...). However, its resolution irritated me - I could clearly see the small pixel squares in the highlight areas. Could it because of the possible low resolution of the screen saver itsself or...?

(I saw the model in a shop, the qulity was real good.

I don't know these two Samsung models, there are good and bad Samsung screens for your requirements.

About Eizo using Samsung panels: Of course, and very probably even more LG/Philips panels. That doesn't say much about image quality, though. Electronics make a huge difference, as do panel model, revision, and quality grade. If you want to be on the safe side and have the money, get an Eizo, otherwise you should do a little research and read a few reviews in non-gaming oriented magazines. A good german one would be www.prad.de, I don't know any other site (german or english) that is as good as this one.
