  • My Turn: Step into D-SLR time.

17 years after those two Fuji's take and develop single use cameras, it was time to go for SLR system.

and yep, I went with the E-400. after two days, I am still more than a happy.
    The Set is:
    - E-400 Double kit (with 14-42 and 40-150 Zooms)
    - 2GB Extreme III Compact Flash
    - 2 x Hoya HMC Pro UV-Filter
    - MF-1 OM-System to 4/3-System Adapter.

I already got few OM-lenses as sort of christmas present:
    - OM Zuiko 50mm F1.4
    - OM Zuiko 200mm F4
    - Vivitar 70-150mm Zoom
    - Vivitar 2x (Matched 70-150mm) Multiplier.
... to quickly comment about using these as manual lenses in E-400, I was suprised their performance. Only the Vivitar Zoom was basically unusable, but for example the 200mm one is as sharp as the kit lenses. I had heard all kind of horror stories about small and dim View Finders. E-400 seems to have okayish one, because focusing seems a bit easier than what it was on my friend's E-500 and OM lenses are definetely usable.

and oh... remember that E-system has Focal Lenght multiplier of 2. The new lenses actually are designed to be full frame (as this size of frame, which is pretty close to one half of old 35mm.), but the OM lenses are simply cropped by factor of 2. ( So I do have a sort of 400mm F4 prime lens. It does get a bit soft if I use the 2x multiplier with it, but it still stays okayish for those very special cases where I need 800mm F8 reach. What?? Tripod? yeah, definetely with that 2x multiplier. )

Some pictures coming up as soon as I am back to my flat (ADSL connection, now in dial up.)

Congrats for moving in the d-slr area, I see you already have a nice selection of lenses. This area is very addicting to say the least. I currently have a Canon 300D with a 17-55mm, 50mm 1.8, and a friends Sigma 70-300mm, 550EX external, Alien Bee 800 studio strobes w/softbox and umbrellas. Post some shots you took with you new camera..........a few I took with my tripod below...........
