Which ones are good? Right now I'm looking at the Viewsonic VG175 or Samsung 770TFT. Are there better choices at this price point?

What is your intended use for it (gaming or 2D and or both)?
What price point would that be?"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss

In a recent review in PC Pro magazine here in the UK, the Iiyama 17.4" display won the honours.
It was the cheapest, had the same as and more features than other more expensive ones.
Don't know what the price is like for you over in the US, but it's quite reasonable here @ £876+vat.
The 17" is about £672+vat.
Also note, do you need DVI?
If so, you will find the cheaper models simply don't have it and you'll have to use a D-Sub connection which results in a loss of picture quality and response rate from the pixels.
It's because with D-Sub you're going Digital > Analogue >Digital, where as with DVI on both the LCD panel and graphics card you've got a straight Digital > Digital connection.
The 17.4" Iiyama has DVI, the 17" doesn't - this might be a moot point as you obviously need a DVI output on your graphics card.It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.
Trolls might not be quick thinkers but they don't forget in a hurry, either
