  • Upgrade my Duron to a Tbird ?

I'm currently using a Duron 650@866, but after seeing how cheap the T-birds have become, I'm beginning to consider getting a 1200 MHz.
How much of an improvement will I see ?

I run Genome@Home 24/7, play a bit of UT once in a while, compress the occasional mp3 and I'm looking to get into Dixv compression as well.

A solid overall boost I'd say.

Don't have any specifics on UT, but I'm running it nicely on my 1.33@1.54GHz with G400MAX...

But genoming, DivX'ing and the making of MP3's will gain significantly from this, so if you've got the money, DO IT!

And 1.2GHz comes multiplier-unlocked, so OC'ing is easy
Why would I send my pants to New Jersey?

Wich board? Are you running the duron at 6.5*133?

Get the 1200 C model. 1200/100 is not much faster than a 1000/133.

        I'm running at 6,5 * 133 at the moment on a Soltek SL-75KAV (VIA KT133A).

          Hi CHHAS,

I upgarde two days ago from a TB 700@850 to a TB 1.2G. I was actually disappointed in performance. For example, I only got 200 points higher in 3DMark2k1. At first I thought it was my system, thought something was wrong, but after comparing with others and looking at benchmarks again adn re-reading reviews, that is how it is. I then decided to o/c to 1.35G which helped. I then o/c my vid card and that was the hugest jump. OK, so 3dmark isnt everything so I busted out MechWarriro4 which is the most important to me at this time and with all settings enabled running at 1024x768x32 it was still a tad choppy here and there until I o/c the vid card. I am now happy with the o/c vid card. I do notice faster boot times, and the overall general feel is faster so for $119 I couldn't resist I know games aren't everything but the main reason I bought it was so I could play mw4 in all it's beautiful glory! UT was already more than fast enough, so that was never an issue for me. I haven't tried anything else really yet. It's only $100 bucks, do it!

I'm considering picking up a MSI K7T Turbo ($102)and 1200C ($111) Athlon to replace my Abit KT7/Duron 700@900. I'd sell my mobo/processor to my brother of course (he'd probably want the Voodoo 4 out of the other machine. The only problem is that I also want to replace my WBK38 with a Glaciator, and my 8x Plextor with a 16X Plextor. I think I may just hold off a bit though and see what happens first though.

              2d yes 3d no

from the benchmarks ive seen 2D performance will be improved significantly but 3D will only have a slight improvement.
if 3D's your bag you'd be better off with a new graphics card
