when i click on windows update(start menu) i get this message " windows update was disabled by your system administrator ". i'm logged in as the admin so how did i manage to bugger that up?, more importantly, how to i enable it again?. i've had a look in the microsoft help topics( website ), but the registry files they list to modify to re-enable update aren't in my registry.

i get a ' Your organization has decided to provide software updates internally rather than through Windows Update. To download updates for your Windows computer, please see your network administrator. ' message. this is really annoying, i don't want to do a fresh install then find there is an easy way of enabling this.

okay, i've been looking on microsoft's site & found this " When the "Disable and remove links to Windows Update" local computer policy is enabled in Windows 2000, by design, the Windows Update command on the Start menu and on the Tools menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 are hidden from view. Also, users who try to connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site by using the Wupdmgr.exe tool are denied access, and receive the following error message: " . doesn't mention where i can find this option though, anyone know?.
