    So noone can explain to me why all those expensive Creative cards sound like the cheapest $25 crap in Win2k (not that they were sounding great in Win98/ME, but at least acceptable), regardless of the mainboards chipset?
    Why all the hum/static on the digital!!-out? Why the non-linear frequency-band?!? Why the low SNR?!?

    And finally why doesn't Matrox make sound-cards? I couldn't care less for 3D in soundcards, but I do care for output-quality.....
    But we named the *dog* Indiana...

      I don't actually think it's the Live! at fault anymore as my mouse pointer skips at the same time as the audio skips. It happens on HDD reads - is it the highpoint?

        Everybody seems to be upgrading.

        Ive got a 1.4Tbird, and assosiated accesories sitting on my desk, waiting for my Gigabyte mobo to turn up.

        I heard there are USB problems with the Epox board though.

        You could try the forums at www.amdmb.com

          I think I've fixed it! I've installed an older version of the highpoint drivers and so far I've had no skips listening to MP3s!

          The version I've used is 1.03b from http://www.highpoint-tech.com/370drivers.htm. Looking back the fix list, I can live without what's been 'fixed' (I think!). Apart from maybe the 'can't install win2k (Epox)' one But I'm not planning on re-installing quite yet.

            Yeah...push the bus above, like 170 or something and USB flips out. A non-issue

              Thanks, guys
              Now I'm up & running with my 8K7A+ 1,33@1,33 TB AYHJA
              Onboard sound disabled
              AND waiting for my Sonic Fury (=Santa Cruz in Europe)
              I'm exited to get it.
              BTW, the 1,33 + Taisol 760092 cooling with Arctic Silver2 is good for 46°-51° C even when video capture.
              But need more system fans, to be able to close the box.

                Tips on using & installing the Santa Cruz/Sonic Fury;

                1. follow the installation instructions TO THE LETTER, ESP. in Win2K. VERY important!! This is one case where you really do want to read the readme.

                2. TOTALLY uninstall your previous cards drivers. If you have to re-install them to get a logfile then do so.

                Leftover SBLive driver files are of particular importance. This Santa Cruz FAQ on viahardware.com has info on what to look for with them;

                You may notice that the guys at viahardware.com like the Santa Cruz

                3. if you have another device or program that installs its own mixer then hit the Turtle Beach FTP and download scruz405.zip. This is a multi-mixer patch that puts a mixer menu on the SysTray. That way multiple mixers don't step on each other. This is particaularly important for RT-2000 and RT-2500 users.

                4. pay particular note to the programmable Versa-Jack. It can be an analog input or either an analog or digital output. Very nice feature.

                5. the digital S/PDIF input for CD or DVD players is a 2 wire header on the board.
