HP CDWRITER 8200... help

    SORRY, NO READ

    well just to be sure... i checked whether the 8200 is actually READING... ands to my dismay it is NOT anymore... you can see the dirve under windows explorer, when you try to explore the CD in there it keeps saying insert a disk ! Is my drive completly bust ?!?!? I opened it to try and clean it after seeing that... i did not help ! any ideas on how to solve this ?

      Maybe you could try flashing its firmware incase its corrput? If that doesn't help, which I doubt, then I don't know what will. Looks like its investment time. BTW have you removed the drivers from when it was a parallel device?

        Ditto on the The HP 81xx and 82xx series drives being junk. I sent a brand new one back that had the same symptoms as dizzynoodle's.

        Another thing to consider - Adaptec. They don't call it Easy CD CREMATOR for nothing. Check out all the explorer files that are modified at install. It's the worst thing I ever installed on my machine. Whether you replace your burner or not I suggest you remove Adaptec and all it's sneaky little traces from your system.

        Try Nero Burning ROM - it's the best burning software out there and it doesn't take over your system like AcrapTake does.

          Bought a new drive !

          Hey all,

          thanx for ur help i wasted so much time trying to fix this damn thing .... ijust went out and bought the New HP CD12 RI... great lil thing...! It's te upgrade of the 9500 series, with the addition of burn-proof technology... so i guess a perfect match for me, since i luv my office 9500 drive !

          running on Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum.
