CB, running 1600x1200 on that 14 incher will get you into coke-bottle-bottom glasses before you realize it. It was a big relief when I moved up to a 19", but I still only ran that at 1152x864. Be careful, buddy.
I am not worried about my vision... its great and I never strain my eyes on purpose... I only run at 1600*1200 when I am testing out a game or such because the leftmost side of the screen gets distorted and any white screens cause the monitor to squeal in a very demonic satifying way...
Most of the time I run at 1024*768.
AMD Phenom 9650, 8GB, 4x1TB, 2x22 DVD-RW, 2x9600GT, 23.6' ASUS, Vista Ultimate
AMD X2 7750, 4GB, 1x1TB 2x500, 1x22 DVD-RW, 1x8500GT, 22" Acer, OS X 10.5.8
Acer 6930G, T6400, 4GB, 500GB, 16", Vista Premium
Lenovo Ideapad S10e, 2GB, 500GB, 10", OS X 10.5.8
I haven't both due to necessity and financial constraints.
Necessity in that I don't feel I need anything bigger at the moment... (I would have to get a new desk)
Finacial Constraints in that the *#*(@&ing job I am in now doesn't even give me enough for rent let alone splurge spending... I never thought I would see the day when I was happy I could buy what I wanted to at the supermarket instead of dicount no name brand stuff (Which is suprisingly not that bad sometimes)
I think I would have been better off holding back from college for a year or two and I probably could have ended up with a better job then the one I have now without the huge (To me... not to others) debtload that I have racked up.
You would almost think I wasted those years drinking and partying and being all crazy like

1024x768x32, 1280x1024x32, 1600x1024x32- games (depends on the game, obviously)
VisionTek GF3, 19" KDS monitor.
The desktop is sharp and vibrant (even at 1280, which is the highest I will use on this 19" monitor- don't like squinting at tiny text/icons, etc).
I've had some strange probs with games though- the gamma settings stay WAY too dark. Even with gamma set at max through game settings/display settings. I have to override them using PowerStrip (using Haig's suggestion elsewhere in these forums) in order to get it light enough.. looks good once that's done, but needs done at every map change in UT, or every time the game is loaded for other D3D titles (OpenGL games are fine).
On my wife's machine:
800x600x32, small fonts- Windows Desktop (she likes it LARGE, though I prefer 1024 on that one too)
800x600x32, 1024x768x32- games (most are 800x600, due to slower processor and video card)
Matrox G400Max, Generic 19" monitor (specs approximately eq. to the KDS above, though)
Nice sharp, especially vibrant displays on this one.
"..so much for subtlety.."
System specs:
Gainward Ti4600
AMD Athlon XP2100+ (o.c. to 1845MHz)
