I got the Sennheiser HD600s. They are pretty darned good, especially with the Headroom Max Headphone amp through which I listen to them. The Nakamichi CD Player2 with Burr-Brown d/a processing probably helps, too. I have listened to the BeyerDynamics twice, but many years ago. They were some of the best I've heard. The Stax electrostats were pretty good too, but in a way almost too detailed. Perhaps I got this impression because they were not as able to produce thunderous bass as the dynamic headphones I've listened through.

One of the comments that people make that bugs me is when they categorize a speaker or headphone as being suited better for "classical" or "pop/rock" or whatever. A truly accurate speaker will not be any more or less accurate for a different type of music. I might agree that pure electrostatic headphones and speakers sound best when playing chamber music and a good car stereo with multiple woofers sounds best when playing heavy bass, but that is because the weaknesses of each are not displayed when playing these types of music. One reason people love the Martin-Logans is that they combine the best parts of electrostatic and dynamic design. If you don't like the way a recording sounds through an accurate speaker, then I'm sorry.. it's the poor recording that is at fault there. A speaker with poor detail will certainly cover up these faults, so that you might like its sound more with this recording. Good recordings will never sound as good as they can though, and you will never know the joy of hearing them clearly. A party speaker might equalize up the bass, but anything musical will sound like crap. A good speaker is still always a good speaker.
