You might give http://www.okaysoft.de a try for that. They deliver very reliable within 24 hours if the game´s already in stock. If not, you can preorder it and will almost always receive a copy before the "BPjS" laid it´s grubby hands on the game (putting it on the index, that is).
Most of the time they offer all three Versions of a game (UK, German and US).
They also send you an e-mail when receiving your order and another one, when your order is shipping.
And after a few orders (five I think) you can even pay via invoice, so no more credit card or cash paying anymore.
Sorry, that´s sadly the case. Another possibility to get the US-Version of any game is to buy it in one of germany´s smaller neighbour-countries. But that´s depending on which area or city you live.
I for myself do live next to the Netherlands where you can buy every game without any restictions such as in germany. Almost always the US-Versions are sold there. Only sometimes you get the game´s description in dutch - but the software itself is almost always the original US-Version with english texts. (As far as i know/experienced).
E.g. there you can still get a copy of Quake 2 in any store selling software - which would be quite difficult to get in germany. And the price hardly ever exceeds 35-40 EUR for a newly released game.
But that´s certainly only an option if you don´t live too far away from the border.....
Otherwise you should buy the UK-version - AFAIK there´s no difference to the US-Software, except for the box-design. In the UK you often get the game in a DVD-box whereas the US seem to prefer the old fashioned "big-boxes".
But as long as the game doesn´t require a big manual, I don´t think thats´s a problem (throwing away the damn paper boxes anyway).
I bought a copy of "Max Payne" in the UK-Version. It was even cheaper than the german version, so they got me in that one.
Perhaps somebody of our english members knows if there are sometimes differences between UK and US-versions of games (except the box style)??
hmmm, i just moved from bielefeld to freiburg (zivi), so i guess i could check france and switzerland, its a little too much trouble for a poor zivi like me, who doesnt even have internet yet, except when hes at home
I guess with credit card payment in advance almost every shop in the U.S. will ship to germany - albeit I have never tried it. So no experience with that one.
As long as a game is available in the U.K.-version, I´d personally go for that one. Especially as there´s no trouble involved (at least with the store I suggested). I already bought aroung 30 games in the last 3 years without any trouble whatsoever. And since then it has always been the US-Software only in a different box - if not exactly the same at all.
If there were a difference in gameplay/content between the versions they told you on their webpage - so normally there´s no risk of getting a "crippled version". (Green blood or stuff like that for the sensitive average german player who might be offended by red color)
