asked this b4; how to kill Macromedia Flash ads??

I don't want to install flash player because it is causing bugginess in my computer, is there anyway to block ads that use macromedia flash based ads...you know...the irritating one that asks to install flash player in your system and then takes up bandwidth to download the file....I tried banning the web address that the ad is orginating from but this does not seem to work in IE5...

how do I discover the IP address of a website?

ie...so I can block

in Junkbuster you can use wildcards for covering series of servers ...

*.*.akamai.net would do it in your case

thanks...I see they use proxy servers...does that mean my connection speed will slow down much.

I use junkbuster under Linux, and it works great.

I just wouldn't block *.akamai.net

Akamai is a company that leases spare web space and bandwidth from places like universities, and then sells this space to other businesses and organizations. Akamai is often transparent, where if you go to something like www.cnn.com (maybe, I think they use Akamai) you actually get redirected to a mirror that is geographically closer to you.

I think it's a really nifty system/business model.

Yeah, ad companies use it, but a lot of legitimate sites do to, so be careful.
