    This really sucks .... AMD must be in real deep shit to pull something like this !.
    I wouldn't worry about it. Just look at the two sources, Tom 'I'm in bed with Intel and I will talk bad about everything else' Pabst and The 'we will say anything to get you to come to our site' Inquirer.

      So, as far as I´m concerned, they can call it Model 1600/1800/2000, PR 25 Ghz, the bios can display AMD Athon "fast enough", I don´t care. As long as I know what I´m really buying and it costs 4 times less than the similar performing Intel CPU, I´ll buy it.
      The same here. Even though I did dislike Intel MUCH more than now (being an Amiga user by the roots) I still bought a Celeron300A since that was THE CPU to get at that time - and then crank it up to 450 MHz and have it perform like a P-II @450 and much higher than any AMD (at that time) at least in anything FPU-dependant.
      But we named the *dog* Indiana...

            Why shouldn't SSE2 and 3DNow be used in testing the CPU's ... it's giving max performance for them both.In Anands case they only use the MMX iDCT.

            And on top of that ANAND says that they couldn't bench any difference when using the iDCT from *ntel ! Which also boosts AMD cpu's almost to the same level as the 3DNow version!

              Yes... me too! Despite my posts may seem very pro-AMD now and then, I simply pick up what has the best price/performance ratio. That celeron300A... oh the memories! Cheap enough, just put it on a BX board, cranck the fsb up to 100 Mhz... bingo here´s yours PII 450 for 5 times less. It was an impressive upgrade from a P225MMX Intel never again had such a deal (well, maybe the Celery 366/550 and PIII 700/933+).

              AMD made a great breakthrough with the Athlon core. Their previous CPU´s just plain sucked. Fast integer, right, but FPU was what made us happy . They did it with the K5, did it again with the K6, not a big improvement with the K6-2, but Athlon, yes sir, well done. Not only the CPU design is well done but they also have upgrade it: Original .25u Athlon -> .18u -> Thunderbird -> Upcoming Palomino.

              Another good thing about AMD is they kept the platform preety stable (socket A). Ok, going from Slot A -> Socket A was worrisome for some people and for technical reasons Socket to slot converters never appear. Intel, with every CPU it releases, has a new stupid socket/voltage protocol that screws people with older motherboards. That Tualatin new protocol that requires a new chipset revision, the PIV socket change rendering socket 423 motherboard useless. The Tualatim issue is just plain stoooopid. Actually it will live as the new Celeron. Celeron means fair prices, and there are certainly people out there willing to upgrade their PIII cpu´s with 1+ Giggers. While Celeron/Tualatin 1.2 Ghz would be a very nice match, they just can´t because it won´t work in older boards.
