The Pentium 4 could have been much better, and Itanium requires such intensive optimization that it will be on its last legs before much software can take advantage of it. It remains to be seen whether they can bully everyone into accepting IA64..
Have you worked with an Itanium system ?
Itanium is brand new and it's EPIC not CISC or RISC so of course it needs new compilers and recompiled programs.But when compilers are in place programs will fly and fly fast on an Itanium system ... that's the whole point in switching to EPIC.
But i'm sure it will prove itself when the 2 generation Itaniums come out.
