    Trouble with the 75GXP's?

    Industry sources are citing problems with the IBM 75GXP hard drives, and one insider even said that you should avoid the ones from Hungary. Didn't a MURCer already say that a month or so ago?

      It took IBM 22 days to replace my 30 Gb 75GXP(DTLA307030) with a 30 Gb 60GXP, I hope they burn in hell. .

      That was after about 3 or 4 failers in around 8 months of having it. .

      While we're on the subject has anyone ever been able to figure out quite what the SMART technology does? This seemed to do bugger to predict potential problems. Anyone had any results with it???

        Bacon - As far as I know, (which may not be much on this subject) SMART technology is supposed to determine when the drive is going to fail, mostly by how hard a time the drive has reading sectors. But from what I know, unless you have software to check it, it is useless.

        But I could be wrong. (And then someone who does know will post and then we all know).
