    Is there a SCSI 32x?

    No.

    Is that 32x really 32x?

No, it burns closer to 12x most of the time.

    So do I care?

    Nope.

Yup. Most all of the CD-R's in stores are only certified for 8-12x so what's the big deal if it can burn on disks nobody carries?

I only buy Taiyo Yuden (sp?) cdr's, and all of them are certified at 12x but burn at 24x.

Just bought a PlexWriter 121032S last week.. Fast enough for me, since I've been used to burn at a slow 2 speed.

                1. agreed
                2. 12x most of the time, not really, the transition is close to the beginning.
                I care
But then I have an 8X Plextor, so that would be a significant upgrade for me

Actually, let's be honest - the burn quality you get at ultra-high speed sucks. And the transition isn't as "close to the beginning" as you might like to think.

P.S. Your hard drive can't keep up at those speeds anyway... well, MOST people's can't. If you have an Ultra160 RAID array you are of course the exception.
