  • Yet another @home question

    Well UPS should be dropping off my Case this afternoon.So I'll be putting it together tonight. Heres my question. How do I go about getting my cable modem set up with out using Comcast's POS front end software? I've heard about using winproxy, but wasn't successful in setting it up. I'm going to be running winXP also to help muck it up some more LOL. Any suggestions?

    There is nothing to muck around with really. You need to have the correct computer name, DHCP and that's it. Should be a piece of cake.

      YEP !

      Just remember to Tweak the Receive Window under XP
      it defaults to 17xxx something which isn't enough if you are using a broadband connection !

      and why you ask .... check

      you have to add the following into your registry

      Reg Key :
      HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Param eters

      Entry :
      "TcpWindowSize"=dword:00007fff

      7ffff ~ 32K windowsize wich is best suited for a 2-way cable with normal latency.

      You can check your TCP/IP settings online at :
      www.speedguide.net they have a topmenu called cablemodems where you will find a link to TCP/IP analyzer
