Yes there is
There are many manufacturers that make PCI-cards for such needs. Those that I remember now are Promise Technologies and HighPoint Technologies, but I'm sure there are more of 'em...

Adaptec makes a UDMA/IDE RAID controller in PCI card form. It is designed for low-end server RAID's, but if you want to get into that and name recognition is everything for you...check it out:
The other two brands listed above are good as well. I'd check out some of the Promise stuff first, IMHO.

Be very careful what you buy.
I know that Highpoint no longer support ATAPI (CD/DVDs etc) on the cards starting with a bios version one or two back on the HPT370 chipset. The older HPT366 will most likely still support it via an older bios, but may not be the current flavor of the week with retailers
I think it may be the same for the Promise cards, but am open to correction.Lawrence

if your m/board doesn't have ata100 capability, then I'd get a Promise TX2 ULTRA 100 IDE Controller PCI, hook up both your hdds as masters on it & put your cdrw as master on the now free m/board ide channel!Last edited by ayoub_ibrahim; 16 September 2001, 07:06.

Seems to be reasonably priced and you can conect 4 devices, the only question is, does it suport windows XP?
In suported OS section it doesnt even mension Windows XP, maybe its too early.Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (nForce2)>>AMD 2500+@ 3200+ (Barton)>>1.5 GB Ram (PC400)>>Leadtek GF 6800 12x6(385/850)>>Western Digital 120GB (WD1200JB) & Fujitsu 20Gb(MPF3204AT)>>Cambridge Audio azur 540A>>Razer Viper(Mouse)>>V7 V7S20PD 20.1 TFT Monitor>>NEC 3510A>>Lite-ON (40x10)>>Cherry CyMotion>>CanoScan N670U>>Epson Stylus Color 760>>Windows XP (SP2)

I'm using a Promise Ultra100 TX2 with 4 HDs connected to it and my CD-RW and DVD on my mobo's IDE slots. The Ultra100 TX2 solves the problems I had with the Ultra66 + SB Live and video capturing. It doesn't sound like you need RAID so just stick with the Ultra series and not the Fasttrack, if you are gonna buy Promise. Also the TX2 supports 66Mhz PCI, so if you have a newer mobo that can do that, then supposedly it will speed up HD access/transfer.Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra 9, Opteron 170 Denmark 2x2Ghz, 2 GB Corsair XMS, Gigabyte 6600, Gentoo Linux

I just read some feedback about "Ultra ATA 100TX2 Controller" from the users and they all say that it is very dificoult to set up that card, you need to mess a lot with the bios.Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (nForce2)>>AMD 2500+@ 3200+ (Barton)>>1.5 GB Ram (PC400)>>Leadtek GF 6800 12x6(385/850)>>Western Digital 120GB (WD1200JB) & Fujitsu 20Gb(MPF3204AT)>>Cambridge Audio azur 540A>>Razer Viper(Mouse)>>V7 V7S20PD 20.1 TFT Monitor>>NEC 3510A>>Lite-ON (40x10)>>Cherry CyMotion>>CanoScan N670U>>Epson Stylus Color 760>>Windows XP (SP2)

You can also get a USB burner. I haven't seen one in action, nor have I seen a review on one. So I have no clue how good they are.System Specs: One Bourbon, One Scotch and one Beer!!!

Using a sony standard burner in a usb ---> IDE bay I have succesfully burned at 10x...
And special bult USB burners should be better....If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Na USB are slow and expensive.
The only useful thing about them is that they are portable.Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (nForce2)>>AMD 2500+@ 3200+ (Barton)>>1.5 GB Ram (PC400)>>Leadtek GF 6800 12x6(385/850)>>Western Digital 120GB (WD1200JB) & Fujitsu 20Gb(MPF3204AT)>>Cambridge Audio azur 540A>>Razer Viper(Mouse)>>V7 V7S20PD 20.1 TFT Monitor>>NEC 3510A>>Lite-ON (40x10)>>Cherry CyMotion>>CanoScan N670U>>Epson Stylus Color 760>>Windows XP (SP2)
