  • kt266a?

    Hello!

My friend just bought an Asus A7V266-A. He wanted to buy that motherboard because he was told that it had the new via kt266a chipset...
He got the motherboard today and he wants to know if it really is a kt266a and not just a regular kt266. How is it possible to see if it's the right chip?

The chip is covered with a cooler so it is not possible to see if you don't take off the cooler.

According to this list (german) or here the ASUS A7V266-A should in fact have the newer/ better performing KT266A. Fortunately it looks like most manufacturers are using different names for the KT266A boards, adding an A or a + to differentiate them from the KT266 ones.

You could also have a look at the BIOS postings maybe there something with VIA KT266A is mentioned. Or download the latest Sandra and see what it reports. Sandra knows the KT266, so if it reports an unkown VIA chipset chances are good you have the A revision.

On an additional note, could you please run some memory benchmarks with the KT266A and post them here for comparision?
