Yep, its a Big Ugly Dish (or Big Useful Dish) but today its beautiful! Just got done watching the 2-hour premier (no commercials). Kick ass!. They did a great job. It gets quite risqué and sensual a couple times, not that that's a bad thing. The Klingon science officer is awesome! Good Sci-Fi/Western in the Roddenberry tradition. I just hope they change the opening and closing music/theme song.
These feeds are the number one reason why I say that BUD is the best TV reception system in the States. You can keep your cable, baby dishes, etc.
P.S. For those that were wondering ... Al stars as a dog in this series.Last edited by xortam; 25 September 2001, 16:04.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>

Hey are these BUD things the same thing that was big back in the early 80's? I remember hearing something at the time that my town wouldn't issue permits for these things because they struck a deal with the local cable company at the time (now Comcast) so that they could run their wire though my town at the time. I was only 6-8 yrs old at the time but I have a faint memory of hearing that.
Anyway do these things work like direct TV or something?
Inquiring minds want to know
ScottWhy is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Yes Scott ... residential satellite TV reception equipment, TVRO (TV Receive Only), started getting big during the '80s. I've had my system since the start of 1991. BUD is similar to DirecTV in that it receives satellite TV signals via a microwave dish. BUD can be used to receive a broader variety of signals (analog C and Ku bands as well as digital, including HDTV). The thing I love about BUD is that you get feeds for shows (such as Enterprise ) in the clear, ahead of air date, and many times, commercial-free. The feeds are the networks' means of transmitting the programming to its affiliate stations for later broadcast (where local commercials are inserted). There are very interesting and often amusing raw feeds of news journalists et.al. at remote studios and locations. People do/say very interesting things when they aren't concerned about being viewed by the public. You also get to hear things like the SNL band playing during commercials or for instance Leno recording a spot during commercial (usually several takes). All fun stuff. Well not all fun ... during outbreaks like the Persian Gulf War, you see disturbing things you never see broadcast on the networks.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>

You're right Technoid, I meant Vulcan (Klingon women generally don't do it for me ). Yes RichL, the crinkle-cuts are Klingons. I don't want to expand any more on the rest until people have had a chance to see the show for themselves tonight.Last edited by xortam; 26 September 2001, 14:06.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>
