Windows 2000 won't install!!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have I come to a dead end here?
But still, many people do run this card with no problems and plus, my mobo is based on the 440zx chipset, certainly not a rare combination! Any ideas, like bios settings etc.?

Take out your soundcard and run it for a week if it runs okay you've got your problem and run over the darned thing. you'll then have to save your pennies or find someone whos got an old pci soundcard they can't get rid off.

Okay, so I think I might be able to replace my crappy soundcard. I might be getting a Creative Vibra 128. But before I do that, I need to be sure that the new card won't create any problems. Is there any way to verify that? The thing is that my system runs fine when I take out the card or even disable it. So although it seems straightforward that replacing the s/c should do the trick, what if the problem lies with my mobo and its bios creating this incompatibility b/w the soundcard and Win2k? Has anyone experienced any problems with this Creative Vibra 128?

Yet another update: I have now replaced my sound card too! I’ve now got the <b>Creative Vibra 128</b> in my system. But the problem is <i>still</i> there, though on a much reduced scale. Now I don’t get that “Hardware Malfunction” error all the time and it is possible to work with the sound card enabled, but I do get it occasionally. Earlier I couldn’t run the demo in 3Dmark 2000 but now I can generally run it till the end, though it sometimes gives me that blue screen right at the end (the sound starts looping and after a few seconds the blue screen comes up). I have been able to play UT and Quake3 without any problems but Quake3 sometimes gets stuck in the menu area. But even while I was installing UT, my computer froze midway with the same error, though on restarting I was able to install the game. So to summarize, while sound based applications will generally crash the system, but sometimes even without sound playing, the system hangs with the above-mentioned “Hardware Malfunction” error.
So what do I do now? Do I need to change some settings in the BIOS or something, or will my system never be able to run Win2k with a sound card in it? Please help!
