• T-Bird overclocking

Seems like I'm stuck with my new T-bird 1.4Ghz running at 1524 (10.5*145). I've tried uping the multiplier to 11X, but my system hangs up bad and even hangs in the BIOS. I took a look at the chip before I put it in and it didn't look like any of the L1 bridges have been cut and its my understanding that the 1.2 and up T-Birds aren't locked anymore. I have an AYHJA core also. I've bumped the voltage to 1.85 (motherboard Max), but I haven't tweaked anything else yet. I've tried running at 150@10.5 but the system wont boot at that speed. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Scott

Find out first if it's really stable at 1524. Run Prime95, for a long time. Or try turning a DVD to DivX @ High quality.

My Duron will "run" at 1066 or 1100, but I will get visual glitches in DivX rips, or errors from Prime95 after a while. This makes me think that some part of my cache is flaking out. But at 1000MHz, my 850 is flawless.

maybe voltage i/o the 3.3 setting should be upped or maybe even your memory is at limits it happened with my abit bxr2 the memory wouldnt do 133mhz just black screen but 129mhz was rock solid

.....damn wombat 133 fsb! my msi k7tpro2 wont even do 102fsb stable for more than 15 minutes....I gotta grab a new mo'board or something

Hey Scott,
I've got the same processor, I found the power supply to be a problem in my system even though it was a 400wt "AMD approved", the +5v was @ 4.7 on idle and much lower under load

Two things:

What temp is the cpu as well as the case showing?

What power supply do you have?
jim

edit: I'm able to boot @ 1729(13x133) and run "stressbench" @ 1662.5(13x133) with cpu temp of 47c

Durango,

Well my CPU is running at 48 degrees C and the System temp are 39 Degrees C. I'm running an Enermax 350W PS and all my voltages are .05 of a volt with in their tolerances....The Temps seem alright to me....

You may want to try a lower multi to see if it's the fsb causing the problem and then try a higher multi with lower fsb.

Check HERE for info on that particular power supply

windingo, my MB has a KT133A chip on it. It's made to do 133.
And my Duron is a good bit peppier at 7.5x133 than it was at 10x100

Let me guess: you have an AYHJA core, but the second line starts with a "9" and not with an "Y". I have one as well (a TBird 1333) and it'll only do 1450 MHz stable. An AXIA "Y" seems to be more oc'able than an AYJHA "9" (and vice versa). I've had to learn this the "hard way" as well, as I was hoping for about 1.6 GHz...

But then up to now I've always had luck with my CPUs, Noname RAMs, gfx-cards depending oc'ability, so I guess I just had to get a "bad" part some time.

I'm not sure if this is still the case on new TBirds, but it used to be that the actual multiplier was set on the L3 and L4 bridges (I think), and in the case of some motherboards it would pickup that multiplier and your mobo's FSB before picking up the multiplier set by your mobo at initial boot.
There was a description on one of the hardware sites about which bridges to make and break on L3/4 to change the default multiplier to a different figure.

Rich is right. I have my 850 set at 7.5. I'm not aware of any MB where the multiplier/voltage are controlled by BIOS that doesn't initially listen to what the CPU says.

I posted links to the article I used way back on the old forum.

I have a AXIA:Y 1333 that does 1540 rock stable (11x140) on a ASUS A7V133. I'm not happy with that fsb number, I guess a got a poor sample of the MB.

Wombat, try something like 7x143 (1001MHz) and see how that goes. You have a good MB and high quality RAM, and you know that the CPU does 1GHz, there is a very good chance that it works.

It's always worth a try. Don't forget upping the VIO voltage.

Maybe I'll give that a shot. I like to keep my PCI bus in spec though.

Besides, if I really wanted this box to run faster, I'd ditch my Matrox card. Since it hasn't come to that yet.....
